Helen Otway
Helen Otway lives on the Tweed Coast with her husband and cat! Her work in this exhibition explores form and shadow of the lone subject during isolation in 2020. Her rescue cat was a constant source of companionship during the quiet of the days. With the sunlight streaming in through the window and her black cat stretched out over the white surface, the shadows created a wonderful repetition of the curved line and form.
The Bird of Paradise, with its large green leaves and flowers that resemble exotic birds, is a popular plant in many gardens on the tropical Northern NSW coast. It's bright flower attracts local birdlife which it needs to pollinate. The series of five oil on board paintings were all painted in Helen's tropical backyard.
