KAREN FIELD - Love Where We Live II
There has been an artist inside me waiting to emerge all my life. As a young girl, I would sell sketches to my friends at school. I was always making things and expressing myself in creative ways, while at the same time pursuing a successful career in medical science.
Before taking up a paintbrush in 2009, I was passionate about self-expression as a fabric artist, designing and making unique quilts. The geometry and precision of the Amish quilts and of the Art Deco era still thrill me. This does not however, appear in my painting style.
Living for the last 8 years on the southern Gold Coast, my inspiration comes from the natural beauty of my immediate surroundings – the beaches, the ocean and the lush vegetation all around me. I need go no further than my own backyard to immerse myself in the sights, sounds and textures that are uniquely Australian.
I love to work in oils, acrylics, pastels and mixed media; the choice is dictated by the subject, size of the artwork and location of my painting studio.
