Living in the hinterland of the Gold Coast provides plenty of inspiration for a landscape painter. Laine and I often go for a morning walk, passing by our own gardens which are full of native plants and birdlife, down quiet rural streets in a valley surrounded by the mountains of the Hinterland. In these works I've painted the Eastern Spinebill and grevillea flowers from my garden and used the local scenery as the backdrop. By combining related imagery in this way I'm trying to get closer to the reality of my experience.
