We love it when our artists drop in to say hi and today Dylan Cooper came to visit. His work is currently on show in the gallery and it does look great. As the most local artists, living in Cabarita himself, Dylan's work reflects our coastline and country scenes.
Later this month on Thursday 24th September, Dylan will be providing an artist talk in the gallery. We will learn about his practice, his works and his inspiration. If you would like to come along to meet Dylan you will need to register via email or message on 0419870305. Places are limited to 8 participants so you will need to get in early. Works available from Dylan can be seen here. Contact Helen at Mist Gallery for more inquiries. The doors opened at 10am, well in fact a little earlier. I had woken early like a school kid on their first day of school. I was excited about my new venture and just a bit nervous too.
The previous four weeks involved getting the space ready. Dismantling the shop fittings and then sprucing the place up with a coat of paint. Luckily, fitting out a gallery doesn't require too much - a hanging system, a table to work and wrap art, some console tables for sculptures and a display cabinet for smaller and delicate items. The night before we opened, my silent partner (aka husband) helped to hang all the works. Not wanting to give away the surprise of open day, we left this job for the very last minute. The gallery looks great, if I say so myself. The artwork from local artists: Dylan Cooper, Nerida Woolley, Judy Oakenfull, Phillip J Hay, Rick Molloy and myself, Helen Otway pop from the crisp white walls and hang together beautifully in our first curated exhibition, Love Where We Live. |
