ARTIST STATEMENT:
As an artist, my work delves into the depths of human emotions, seeking to capture the raw essence of our innermost feelings and experiences. With this series of paintings, I aim to create a visual language that resonates with the viewer on a deeply personal level, inviting them to explore the rich tapestry of emotions that define the human condition. I draw inspiration from my own journey through life, as well as the shared experiences of humanity. Whether it's the euphoria of newfound love, the melancholy of loss, or the quiet strength found in moments of solitude, each painting encapsulates a fragment of the human experience, inviting you the viewer to reflect on your own emotions and vulnerabilities.
At its core, my art is a celebration of our shared humanity—a reminder that, despite our differences, we are all connected by the universal language of emotions. Through my work, I strive to foster empathy, understanding, and connection, forging a deeper sense of community in an increasingly fragmented world.
Ultimately, I hope that my paintings serve as mirrors, reflecting back the myriad emotions that make us human, and offering solace, inspiration, and a sense of solidarity to all who encounter them.
BIO:
Damian Bisogni is an Australian artist whose creative journey spans over three decades, showcasing his vibrant works both nationally and internationally. Originally from Melbourne, Damian has found his artistic sanctuary in the serene landscapes of Byron Bay, New South Wales, nestled upon Bundjalung Land. With deep reverence, he acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands he calls home, recognizing the enduring connection to country and honouring its Indigenous heritage.
Drawing from the rich tapestry of his cultural lineage—Italian on his paternal side and Hungarian on his maternal side—Damian infuses his art with a kaleidoscope of influences. His work serves as a mosaic of history, personal anecdotes, melodies, cinematic narratives, contemporary culture, and the mundane beauty of everyday life. Through a delicate dance between abstraction and semi-representation, Damian weaves whimsical narratives upon solid fields of colour and off-whites.
With each stroke of his brush, Damian expresses a kaleidoscope of observations, building layers of mediums to unearth lyrical abstract and semi-representational imagery. His signature style exudes exuberance, employing both bold and subtle hues to craft simplified figures and forms that dance across the surface.
