John Corby - Mist
John is a self-taught artist who first began painting in 1983. Whilst his paintings are traditional in essence, they have a wonderful ‘painterly’ feel. His subjects include coastal scenes, landscapes and the occasional still life. John’s paintings are full of activity as he captures people enjoying themselves in everyday life and leisure. He has won numerous awards for his work which has been featured in several articles and graced the cover of Australian Artist magazine on two occasions. John has been teaching and demonstrating throughout NSW for the past thirty years. In 2008 he published “The Finishing Touch - a simple approach to better oil painting.”
Travelling and visiting new locations is a sure-fire catalyst for creativity. When I recently relocated to the Northern Rivers district I was overwhelmed by its beautiful coastal landscapes providing a wealth of fresh subject matter. Originally from Sydney, it’s fair to say I’ve ‘roamed’ far from home to discover a world of crashing waves, intimate bush trails, sun drenched sand dunes and sweeping coastal vistas, all right there in my own backyard. It was a long journey and somewhat overdue; but it was certainly worth it!
