Bundjalung Waters
Acrylic on Linen

Bundjalung Waters is an impression of the magical coastal inland waterways. Living in the Tweed gifts us many opportunities to connect with the landscape daily. The local creeks, lakes and pacific ocean all deliver sunny blue shimmers of light.

Recently, when walking through one of the local sub-tropical rainforests, I went looking for an Albert’s lyrebird, which is endemic to a small area on the state border between New South Wales and Queensland. The rarer of the two species of lyrebirds, Albert’s lyrebird is named after Prince Albert. It lacks the elegant lyre-shaped tail feathers of the superb lyrebird but is found in a much more restricted range. It has one of the smallest distributional ranges of any bird on our continent.
Unfortunately, I did not spot one, but I have painted my interpretation of the bird in my painting. I hope you can feel the majesty of the forest and feel the cool spray of the cascade on your face.

Couchy Creek
Oil on canvas
61x91.5cm
Framed

Couchy Creek Nature Reserve lies approximately 14 kms west of Murwillumbah, Northern NSW, and lies within the traditional country of the Minjungbal people. The land, water, plants and animals within this type of landscape are central to Aboriginal spirituality and contribute to Aboriginal identity.
I have been influenced very much by many walks in this area, as it is not far from my home. Early mornings are especially beautiful. Also, after rain, Couchy Creek runs wildly and creates small cascades and waterfalls. This is what inspired this painting.

Epiphytes

I love painting epiphytes! I have thrown as many as I could into this painting. I love their colours, their variety and their beauty and the fact that they live on air. I love to walk in a rainforest and see how many are flourishing.

Giant Spear Lily
Oil on canvas
Timber frame
30.5 x 30.5cm
$600
I have I have placed the giant spear lily in this painting as it is only found in a small area in southern Queensland and New South Wales. Also, it is now listed as Volnerable under the NewSouth Wales Threatened Species Act. The flowers grow in springtime on a stalk which may reach 5m in height. Quite something!
I have added walking stick palms in my painting, as they grow prolifically in this area, especially through Mebbin Forest. I do like the pop of red!

Where the sea meets Land I - 2023
Watercolour & ink on canvas
25cm x 25cm x 4cm
$300
I’m fascinated by the space between the land and the sea. It's constantly changing, tides moving in and out, waves crashing, sand being pushed to and fro, wind and light always moving. It feels ephemeral. For this series of paintings I used watercolour and ink to try to capture that constant movement. Some of the inks are iridescent so they change depending on the light, just as the landscape does.
