KIRSTY GAUTHERON - Love Where We Live II
Native Australian birds are a much-loved subject for artist, Kirsty Gautheron. She is drawn to their resilience, beauty and seemingly charming character. Kirsty believes that birds, particularly when in flight, offer us a sense of freedom. Their calls and songs often herald the start of a new day and suggest that all will be well.
Having grown up in rural Australia, Kirsty Gautheron’s artwork reflects her passion for the natural world. Now living near the coast, she continues to find much inspiration for her paintings. She is known for her joyous depictions of closely observed native birds, her evocative seascapes, and her passionate expressions of rural landscapes. Kirsty aims to express the great sense of freedom that can be found through birdlife and our vast often isolated spaces.
Her expressive, layered, and textured paintings depict Australian landscapes and native birds which have been infused with a blend of memory and imagination. Texture is created using thick mediums with both brushes and palette knives. She strives to express the delight or amazement she personally feels for the image or narrative she has set out to convey. Her aim is to capture a nostalgic warmth in her paintings and to allow the observer to feel present forming their own interpretations and connections to a work.
Kirsty’s work is exhibited in regional NSW and Sydney galleries through group shows, art fairs and solos. Most recently, she was a salon finalist in the Lethbridge Landscape Prize in 2021. Her work is held by collectors in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US.
