LAINE WALKER - Love Where We Live II
I live on acreage in the hinterland of the Gold Coast, the property is surrounded by bushland and we have extensive gardens. The plants, trees, flowers, insects and all manner of wildlife provide me with inspiration and the starting point for my creative pursuits. I attempt to create a new experience in my art based on the feelings stirred in me by the subject matter. It is the joy, colour and beauty of my surroundings I wish to express in the purest way possible.
I love the freedom and release of painting and drawing. I have always been a creative soul but only recently have I taken art seriously, in a very playful and joyous kind of way. Although Australia is my home and I draw inspiration from the natural world around me, Scotland is my heritage so I combine these varied experiences along with my travels and my imagination to create a new world of my own. I love colour and adventure, my pictures start with a simple idea and the paint leads into an unknown carnival of colour, line and shape. My sensibilities are abstract (or maybe semi abstract) and I am very inspired by artists like Picasso, Kandinsky and Matisse and too many contemporary aboriginal artists to mention. I think we are most creatively free when we are very young and I have made it my mission to retain this pure, joyous form of expression.
