Sunflowers for Ukraine.
This painting has lots of symbolism for me. Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. When flight MH17 was shot down it came down in Ukraine in a field of sunflowers. Some sunflower seeds from that field have been harvested, brought back into Australia through strict quarantine, grown in a secure laboratory and then those seeds harvested and given to the families of those killed in the crash. Such a beautiful gesture for families living with such grief.
We also grown lovely sunflowers here in Cudgen, whenever I see them I think of the current war in Ukraine and how it is affecting the ordinary citizens, and then how sunflowers can also be such a gentle symbol of hope given to the families affected by the downing of MH17
