These pieces were inspired by my passion for food and the beauty of forms found in produce and nature.
My love affair with artichokes began in childhood. Each birthday I was asked what I wanted for my birthday dinner and I always answered artichokes! The layers of petals that form the globe of the artichoke, if left unharvested – leads to a beautiful purple thistle. A vegetable and a flower in one.
I am amazed by the magic of banana flowers – the unfolding of the petals which reveal the baby budding bananas as the petals drop off. Inside banana bells is the potential for dozens of bananas. A fruit, a vegetable (the bell is used in Asian cooking) and a flower of sorts.
